It only takes an hour to save a life.

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

One of the better habits (there are several not so good ones) I have developed during “The Great RESETion of 2020” is regular whole blood donation. Since I am not traveling for work, I have the time. I have been blessed with good health. And Gulf Coast Blood Center makes it easy to donate.

After my recent donation, I received a text thanking me for my donation and mentioning that only 10% of eligible donors donate.

That shocked me and made me even more committed to keep up my regular donations – you can donate whole blood every 56 days.

If you live in the Greater Houston area, it is so simple to schedule a donation time (https://www.giveblood.org/). You can fill out all the forms online, making check-in more efficient. While the whole process might take an hour out of your day, the actual act of giving blood is less than 10 minutes – not even enough time to get into a show you might be watching on the personal TV that my local center provides.

And you usually get a little treat. Last time, I was given coupons for free Blue Bell ice cream. This time, they were handing out coupons for beer – which is completely out of touch since you are not supposed to drink after giving blood.

But even you don’t get a treat, I challenge you to make an appointment to save a life.
